The year is 1499. As Alexandra Dunn’s farmhouse is set ablaze, her grandfather places precious stones in her palm, telling her she has until the next full moon to return with a hero...a brave, chivalrous knight to help save her family. Familiar objects become a blur as she is swallowed in darkness. Suddenly Alexandra is standing in the middle of Central Park, but she has no time to ponder on the wondrous powers of the stones or the amazing sights before her...she must find a hero before all is lost.

Joe McFarland would be the first to admit that he’s far from hero material…definitely not the man she’s looking for. A firm believer of quietude and non-violence, he avoids conflict at all costs. At thirty-four, he is one of the younger Professors at NYU where he lectures and teaches History The High Middle Ages. Joe’s main goal in life is to gain membership into the Medieval Academy, a highly distinguished group of archaeologists and historians. He believes membership will bring him respect and recognition…but what he really wants is to be reunited with his father; a man who has spent his entire life searching for the Black Knight, the last of the medieval knights.

Joe’s organized, well-structured life begins to unravel the moment he meets Alexandra Dunn. He figures she majored in medieval history before going off the deep end…until days later when he is miraculously transported through time, to 1499 England. Dressed in Dockers and a button down shirt, Joe thought he was ready for anything...anything but this! An armored man with a very authentic looking broadsword is about to strike him down. With only nail clippers and a Bic to defend himself, Joe has no time to think about such an implausible phenomenon as traveling through time…not if he wants to live to see another day.

AUTHOR REVIEWS

Theresa Ragan does it again! A KNIGHT IN CENTRAL PARK is a delightful roller coaster ride through medieval time, which kept me laughing while wondering how in the world it was going to end. Sir Joe is every woman’s dream. He’ll win your heart with his modern day antics, as well as overcoming every obstacle as he rescues the heroine’s sister. If you enjoy being swept away by characters that will stay with you for days, I highly recommend this read. --Caroline Fyffe, award winning author of WHERE THE WIND BLOWS and MONTANA DAWN

A Knight in Central Park edition by Theresa Ragan Paranormal Romance eBooks

If you are looking for a uncomplicated time travel romance, then you may enjoy this one. You can keep your eyes on the kids in the water and still focus enough to follow the story. Although a 20th century person traveling through time back 400 years, probably would not survive, the fact that not only does he survive and flourish, he manages to fulfill his destiny in several unique ways. I would have liked the characters to have been a little more developed and have the writer be more detailed about life during those times. I also had some difficulty accepting the fact that they could travel through time with objects, as well as Joe's friend Shelley easily believing Joe's tale when he returns. I also found myself constantly thinking about the ripple effect and how did Joe and Alexandra's children change the future.
Despite all this, I did enjoy this book, enough to read another of Ragan's time traveling romances.

A Knight in Central Park edition by Theresa Ragan Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

While I love fantasy, I found this book very difficult to even get into. Stones in the hand projecting her through time is very different than stepping through the stones (as in Outlander) and her reaction to all that she immediately beheld in modern time and her interaction with her "hero" were comedic. I felt the writing was a bit juvenile.
This is hilarious with a modern man ( neat freak), a woman from 1499 (slob) , time travelling back to her place to right a wrong and rescue a sister who does not need rescuing.

A hand full of magic stones are the vehicle to travel by.

Love at first sight especially with him in tight hose of her time.

A mouthy boy, younger sisters and decision made to live happily ever after.

Good laugh imaging them out of their time zone.

Has the nasty knight and his flunkies, good wins in the end.
I bought this as an e-book (thankfully for cheap) because I read that the author spent 5 years after reading Deveraux's "A Knight In Shining Armor" researching the period. Well I have no idea what kind of research Ragan did because a quick couple of hours scan of online history websites would have provided her with a lot more authenticity than her having a 15th century character understand the phrase "what makes you tick" or a myriad of other extremely disappointing errors.
Just recently I have read a lot of these *time slip/historical romances* and I hate to read reviews that criticize a decent author because they got a medieval vegetable wrong or some other trivial thing out of place ( I have read a considerable amount of non-fiction history books on the medieval and renaissance eras which was the root of my interest in this genre) and to expect total accuracy would be a bit much and may even distract from the actual story (those eras were not very nice, black death and all considered) To top it off the story had such great prospects until is got a bit obvious with where it was going.
I think what makes me actually angry about this book at angry at the author is that I feel she blatantly lied about researching the book's period and I find that very insulting to the reader's intelligence. I don't often leave reviews but I felt compelled to do so in this case.
Looking for fun and better accuracy try *She Owns the Knight* or my new favorite *True to the Highlander* both play a bit loose with history but they're great and fun. Looking for something more accurate than bodice ripper fare? - Outlander but it's a hefty book with it's own set of inaccuracies although the gripping story and sheer expanse of it forgives it any trivial problems
To her sorrow I'm sure, Theresa Ragan will never be Diana Gabaldon; but this book does have some redeeming qualities. It's approximately on the intellectual level of a Harlequin Romance (not a compliment, by the way) but there's a time and place for light and easy to read.

I at least liked the characters; the premise is kind of entertaining, and I enjoyed it enough to finish the book.

I do have one quibble I know it seems ridiculous to object to time travel being depicted in the way it is in this book. Time travel, at least at the time of this writing, does not exist, so how can you quibble over a fantasy? BUT....I don't think, if you're time travelling, that you'll at the same time space travel 3000 miles or so to another continent! They start out in Central Park in NYC...and voila...there they are in Britain of 1499! HTH did that happen??!!
Diana at least made the time travel seem possible and realistic, and you could "believe".
Theresa...not so much.
